Official Bio
Dr. Jody-Ann S. Jones is the Founder and CEO of BuyersMarket, Jamaica's first real-time grocery price intelligence platform. A Jamaican-born data scientist with a PhD in International Political Economy, an AWS Machine Learning certification, and full-stack software engineering experience, she built the entire BuyersMarket MVP herself — every line of backend code, every Flutter widget, every data pipeline.
Her career spans building digital dashboards for the Caribbean Export Development Agency to solving complex data problems at scale. But BuyersMarket was born from personal experience: growing up in Jamaica, she witnessed firsthand the financial strain of grocery shopping on families.
Jamaica faces the Caribbean's worst food affordability crisis — families spend up to 47% of their income on groceries, with 8.1% food inflation (nearly double the regional average) and 55.1% of Jamaicans experiencing food insecurity. Dr. Jones identified a critical insight: families don't just need to know where groceries are cheapest — they need to know when to buy them.
This insight became BuyersMarket's A-B-C rating system, which grades every product based on its current price relative to its 90-day low, telling shoppers the optimal time to purchase. Today, BuyersMarket tracks over 18,000 products across 31 stores in Jamaica.
